Paris on the Fly!

By Geri T. - December 8th, 2009 in Inspired Travel

Last month, I spent a weekend in Paris with a friend I had not seen in 3 years. She called to say she had to be in Paris for a meeting “a week from Tuesday,” and wanted to spend the weekend before sight-seeing. She wanted to know (1) if I could go with her, or failing  that (2) recommend hotels and places to visit. Before she finished speaking, I’d already said yes to option #1. Hopped onto the internet and with only 9 days before departure, managed to snag a ticket using airline miles. Imagine that!

We spent three days walking around the neighborhoods of Paris, looking in windows at endless varieties of pastries and cheeses, shopping for hats and gloves in tiny boutiques, and hanging out in cafes. Most of all, we spent it talking and laughing. Traveling with a girlfriend on an unexpected weekend jaunt to Paris is liberating in a way that a longer, more formal vacation isn’t. We didn’t have to see any major sights or go to famous museums. We just had to amuse ourselves. And we did. I took this photo in the Marais district of Paris. I loved the colors and the juxtaposition of the bicycle against the store window. Oh for the love of Paris!
